BRENDA EDWARDS ACCEPTS A LEAD ROLE IN CARMEN JONES

I’m delighted to announce that Brenda Edwards has been offered one of the lead roles in this Summers production of Carmen Jones at the newly renovated Royal Festival Hall.

Brenda is extremely excited about being a part of this prestigious production and can’t wait to work with the Artistic Director Jude Kelly and along side the world class London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Bizet’s Carmen is probably the most famous of all operatic scores and Oscar Hammerstein brilliantly adapted the story to place it in an all-black southern American setting. Carmen Jones is a dramatic story of turbulent obsessive passion.

Brenda will create the role of Pearl for this production which runs at the Royal Festival Hall from 25th July until 2nd September.

BRENDA LANDS CHICAGO ROLE

Brenda Edwards has signed up for the role of Matron 'Mama' Morton in the London West End stage production of CHICAGO The Musical.

Edwards makes her West End stage debut in the London production of the smash hit musical, with Bonnie Langford as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly and Luca Barbareschi as Billy Flynn.

Asked about the news, Brenda enthused: "I am really excited to have been asked to play this role. Of all the West End musicals, CHICAGO is the one I have always hoped to be a part of - its the biggest and best around. This is a perfect opportunity for me as I can still continue working on my recording career and that important first album!"

The soul diva's role as the formidable prison matron follows in the footsteps of Gaby Roslin and Alison Moyet on the London stage and Queen Latifah in the movie version.

The musical closes at the Adelphi Theatre on April 22 before reopening on April 28 at the Cambridge Theatre, the home of the show when the first production opened there in 1979.

Chicago became the longest-running production to play at the Adelphi Theatre in October last year.
